Working in 29Palms (California) was another trip to this beautiful country that has given me so much. It’s a very special feeling the one I get when I step on a USA desert. I have an enormous attraction to them
I feel isolated, like in a different planet, but cozy and sheltered by a team (Sundance) that feels like family. The desert is all about contrasts. It may seem uniform and arid at first but you discover a richer nature later. It’s silence and a powerful calmness, it’s peaceful and quiet but also wild. The night is primitive, is real. Silence… nothing is moving. What a surprise to find the shadows of the night among a clear moonlight reflection. What a pity that I forget about their existence when I’m on the city.
Don’t forget the drastic variation of temperature in the desert. On my suitcase, you’ll find from a bikini to a wool jacket or cashmere pashmina, without forgetting the rest of paraphernalia that I carry with me wherever I go. I’ll talk about it next time.
Fine cuisine is definitely not the strength of this place, but I’ve enjoyed the homemade American recipes. Leaving aside my healthy habits, I ate meals such as ‘chili with corn bread’. It was delicious! Everything tastes even better if you add the kindness of Californian people.
Loved hanging out with Richard Phibbs (photographer) and his assistants again. It’s always wonderful to work with American teams because they are the best with the production and at covering all needs (art direction, attrezzo, makeup and hair stylist, stylist, assistants…). They never let a model be cold, always with a heat canyon ready for exterior locations.
