After my last post, and after receiving your comments on the blog and on social media, I have continued to reflect on behaviours and on how it is within our power to change negative dynamics, thoughts and emotions into positive ones. In today’s post, I am picking up a topic that I also discuss in my book “Yoga, un estilo de vida” and which is along the same lines as the closing phrase of my previous post: “Recovering that curious approach children have to continue discovering within yourself and beyond”.
What else can we recover from children? Their neutral outlook. In the philosophy of yoga, there are concepts such as sauca, one of the behaviours that needs to be cultivated and that entails physical, mental and spiritual cleansing. From a young age we are taught personal hygiene, for example, showering every day, washing our hands before eating, brushing our teeth… This of course is very important, but I have the feeling that we do not pay the same attention to mental hygiene, and even less so at young ages.
Personally speaking, the practice of yoga helps me to connect with myself, with my negative and positive sides, with my positive thoughts, such as kindness, happiness, generosity and empathy…, and the negative ones, such as fear, envy and jealousy… We should not judge ourselves, but observe ourselves with compassion. In yoga, sauca invites us to get closer to our desires and to our clean and pure thoughts, and to move away from those that take something away from us. This cleansing will help us to live a healthier and happier life.
I would like to suggest a very simple exercise to you, so that you can begin to be more aware of your emotions. You will also find it in my book. Take a moment before going to bed to weigh up your day. Observe the events that have occurred and observe your reactions to these events. Take a moment to think about which ones you would like to correct and improve, write them down in a diary, and make a sincere and conscious effort to change them the next day. Naturally, it would be ideal to be accompanied by this awareness all day every day in order to be able to offer the best version of yourself.
Although it may sound superficial, in addition to this exercise I am also suggesting a hair and make-up style to give this best version of yourself on the outside too. It is the look I go for the most, and with which I feel most comfortable. If you also identify with the kind of lifestyle I share in this blog, I’m sure you will love this natural, flattering and easy style too.
